A former girls basketball coach at Midland Lee High School has been acquitted of felony charges of indecency with a child. The case stemmed from allegations that Dan Simmons assaulted one of his players in 2002.
Simmons still faces charges in Lubbock and Albuquerque, New Mexico, from similar allegations going back to the 1990's.
Defense Attorney Dan Carney says he's pleased that the Midland jury took notice of the accuser's "credibility issues."
The jury returned its verdict late Thursday.
Simmons was accused of assaulting the girl, now 21, in his school office. He coached the team from 2001 to 2004 but resigned just prior to his indictment in the Midland case.
Simmons now lives in Houston.
