First Alcohol Sold at Buffalo Springs Lake

For the first time, alcohol is now being sold at Buffalo Springs Lake. The Bud Light Monster Shoot-out Drag Boat Races is the first lake event after beer and wine sales were made legal. Last month, just one vote made the difference in an election to legalize on-site alcohol sales at the lake.

Race spectators will not be allowed to bring in their own alcohol or coolers. That's not the only thing that is changing, this year, the races are sanctioned by the Southern Drag Boat Association.

"S.D.B.A. has been around for over 20 years doing this," said Jennifer Moritz, Marketing Director of Buffalo Springs Lake. "They have an impeccable safety record, their rescue boats can get anywhere on the track within three seconds."

The new sanctions come one year after a Lubbock teen lost his leg, after a boat collided with his SeaDoo at Buffalo Springs Lake.

The races start tomorrow and continue Sunday. The drivers are signing autographs and taking pictures with fans until 7:30 p.m. Friday.
