Buffalo Springs Lake Races Wrap Up

It was a busy weekend for the folks at Buffalo Springs Lake. The drag boat races brought in thousands of spectators Sunday alone, and after last year's accident when a teenager lost his leg, safety was a main concern.

It was a perfect day for the races. Fans showed up by the thousands to watch the boats in action, but this year was different than last. For the first time ever, this event featured beer stands on the lake making it convenient for spectators to grab a cold one. That extra cash from beer sales will go right back into the lake for improvements. Thousands of dollars were made from alcohol sales, but it wasn't as much as organizers anticipated.

But the main concern on the waters was safety. During the races last year, a teenager lost his leg during a boating accident causing more caution on the raceways.

This year's event was a sanctioned race there were rules and regulations that had to be followed. Water safety barriers were defined and spectator space was marked off. And the extra efforts were recognized by loyal fans on the sidelines. This year's event was described as bigger and better and many would agree it was a perfect gift for dad on Father's Day.
