To further expedite the water line relocation, detours will begin Wednesday morning, June 20th, a day early.
As part of the water line relocation for the Marsha Sharp Freeway, Phase 3-B, the City of Lubbock needs to completely close Slide Road at 34th Street. This intersection along with Slide Road south of the Marsha Sharp Freeway will be closed for about 4-6 weeks.
The detours will include:
Slide Road northbound - Detour west from Slide Road onto City Bank Parkway (37th Street) and proceed to the temporary traffic signal at City Bank Parkway and Marsha Sharp Freeway. Traffic may then go northeast back to Slide Road to continue north or go southwest on Marsha Sharp Freeway.
Slide Road southbound - Detour southwest at Marsha Sharp Freeway to the temporary traffic signal at City Bank Parkway and Marsha Sharp Freeway. Traffic will then turn left onto City Bank Parkway and continue to Slide Road where they can continue south.
Slide Road northbound onto 34th Street eastbound - Turn east from Slide Road onto 42nd Street at the signal then turn north onto York Ave. to 34th.
34th Street westbound to Slide Road southbound - Turn south on York Ave. and continue to 42nd Street. Turn west on 42nd Street to the signal at 42nd Street and Slide Road.
34th Street westbound to Slide Road northbound - Traffic should use 29th Drive to Marsha Sharp Freeway or to Slide Road.
The road closure is necessary as it allows the contractor who is currently installing the large diameter water main along Marsha Sharp Freeway, in the vicinity of Slide Road, to connect the new water mains to the existing water distribution system. When the work is completed, the nearby pump station will be able to produce enough water to meet the normal demand of the City and this will lift the Stage 4 Emergency Condition water restrictions within the City.
The road closure is also necessary for the safety of the Contractors working in this area and for the traveling public.
