Whiteface ISD Competes in National Contest

Whiteface ISD is one of eight finalists in the country to compete for the grand prize in the Christopher Columbus awards. They're vying for a $25,000 award. Seventh graders Jacob Friesen, Kassidy Gandy and Jake Johnson and their coach Lisa Johnson are in Walt-Disney World, Florida where they're showing off their project.

The students worked with researchers from Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas in an effort to help cotton farmers who are struggling with rising fuel prices. They tested various wind patterns and speeds and concluded that wind turbines would be an ideal energy source in Cochran County because of the wind's patterns and virtually endless supply.
