Lubbock authorities shut down parts of University Avenue around noon Friday.
The Lubbock Fire Department responded to a HazMat leak shortly before noon Friday. The Anhydrous Ammonia leak occurred at Gandy's Dairy, 201 University Avenue. The product is considered a health hazard in significant quantities, therefore authorities evacuated an area up to approximately two blocks south of the leaking tank.
An entry team entered the "hot zone" at approximately 1:30 p.m. to attach a hose that enabled them to offload the remaining product into an adjacent empty tank.
The area was cleared of any remaining fumes by early afternoon.
