Vandals gave a local soccer club a rude awaking. When members showed up to camp Tuesday morning, they found all their soccer nets slashed.
The Jazz Soccer Club wouldn't let the vandals keep them from their goal. The team is hosting a soccer camp at 58th and Memphis, behind Haynes Elementary. Tuesday, players were shocked to find that all four of their goal nets had been cut. The team used plastic wire ties to fix the nets, but that's only a temporary fix. Team leaders tell NewsChannel 11 they've contacted Lubbock police, and now, they're just asking if anyone saw anything, to contact police.
Team trainer Carlos Nelgar says, "It's not what I felt, it was the children who asked us what happened to the nets. That's difficult to answer, because we don't want to tell them something negative."
The nets can cost between $80 to $200, but the team says they're taking a stand for principle, not for money.
If you saw anything at the soccer fields behind Haynes Elementary Monday night, give Crime Line a call. That number is 741-1000.
