Dispute Between Blue Cross Blue Shield and Local Doctors Could Cost Patients

Come September, if you have Blue Cross & Blue Shield insurance you may have to pay a little more to see your current doctor.

That is because of a dispute between the insurance company and a group of about 200 area doctors, known as Covenant Medical Group.

The disagreement is over medical reimbursement and it could effect the thousands covered by the insurance on the south plains.

Dr. Scott Robins, part of Covenant Medical Group, says they will still see their patients even if a compromise can not be reached. "We will not bar any patients, we will not refuse to see any patients. It's just Blue Cross's decision might cost the patients more money."

The doctors say if an agreement cannot be reached by September 18th, they will no longer accept Blue Cross & Blue Shield claims. That means you would still be able to see your doctor, but you would most likely pay for the visit out of pocket and file the claim yourself.
