Area Kids Saddle Up For Hi Plains Rodeo

Hundreds of kids saddled up this weekend for the Hi Plains Rodeo Association Directors Rodeo.

The event kicked off Saturday morning and ended Sunday evening.

More than 200 kids ranging in age from eight-years-old to 19-years-old competed in categories that included bareback riding, bull riding, calf riding and much more.

The competitors came from all over Texas and New Mexico to compete in this weekend's rodeo.

"This is a way of life pretty much. There's country kids and ranch kids. This is what they do. I mean a lot of the stuff that they do here is what they do at home on the ranch," says Travis Howe, President of the Hi Plains JR Rodeo Association.

The kids who qualified will compete in the finals rodeo in Clovis July 17th-22nd.
