Updated: Slaton Soldier Dies In Iraq

A Slaton man has become the 8th South Plains soldier to die while serving his country. Private First Class Andrew T. Engstrom of Slaton died in Iraq Tuesday. The 22-year-old suffered injuries in a non-combat related incident. His death is under investigation by the Department of Defense.

Andrew's mother spoke with NewsChannel 11 on the phone to tell us more about her son. Katie Crowley says quote, "My son, Andrew was a loving, caring person who always wanted to be in the military. I want him to be remembered as a loving caring soul."
