Multiple Sclerosis Protein

Scientists are studying a protein that could potentially be a therapeutic target for those with Multiple Sclerosis.

The protein, called Cyclophilin, has been shown to protect nerve fibers from damage when deactivated in mouse models. Deactivating the protein helps strengthen Mitochondrion, which helps protect nerve fibers from injury.

The researchers hope that using drugs known to block the protein will protect MS patients' nerve fibers from damage.
