This week's top performers lined Broadway; Fourth on Broadway that is. So if you spent your Fourth of July dining on anything from corn dogs to cotton candy, you'll be happy to know there were no low performers.

Here is a complete list of the restaurants and their violations for the week ending on 7/12/07.

Now to this week's low performers.

Josie's #3 at 5101 Aberdeen was cited for 8 critical violations.

  • Several cold foods were above the safe temperature of 41 degrees.
  • A can was dented.
  • Pork was expired.
  • A hand wash sink was used for other purposes.
  • The paper towel dispenser in the men's restroom was broken.
  • A bleach water solution was too strong.
  • A sink was leaking.
  • Several food contact surfaces were soiled including: a knife stored with clean dishes, crumbs and debris were found in a utensil bin and an ice machine had heavy build-up on the interior and exterior walls.

Management says all violations have been corrected. They say they had several new employees who got a little nervous during the inspection, but they strive to meet all health requirements and work hard to meet all health department expectations.

Our next low performer is Lin's Buffet at 5608 Slide Road. They had 10 critical violations.

  • Multiple cold food items were not at their correct temperatures.
  • Multiple hot food items were not at their correct temperatures. 
  • An employee behind the sushi bar did not wash their hands before putting on gloves. Another employee washed their hands in a dish wash sink rather than a designated hand wash station.
  • There was no hot water at a hand sink.
  • Employees were using hand sinks for purposes other than hand washing.
  • Prepared crab salad was next to raw beef in a cooler. This poses the risk for cross-contamination.
  • A dish washing machine did not reach high enough temperatures.
  • Several food contact items were soiled or damaged, including: knives, a rice scoop and a slicer.
  • The facility did not have correct documentation for how long food had been out.
  • They did not have updated freezing records for the seafood used for sushi.

Management at Lin's says they have been working closely with the health department. The say the inspector came in Thursday for their re-inspection and everything was flawless. They add, that their customer's safety and satisfaction is their top priority.

We find our last low performer at 5705 4th street. Casa Ole' had 11 critical violations.

  • Several cold foods were as high as 58 degrees. They must be 41 degrees or colder.
  • Multiple hot foods were not held at at least 135 degrees.
  • An enchilada plate was not reheated properly.
  • An uncovered drink was found above a food contact surface.
  • Four cans were sharply dented.
  • Raw chicken was stored above raw meat in a cooler. This poses the risk for cross-contamination.
  • Hand wash sinks were being used as dump sinks, and they were not properly draining.
  • Multiple flies were in the kitchen and dining area.
  • Toxic items were not properly stored of labeled.
  • Tip-sensor thermometers were not available to all employees.
  • Multiple food contact surfaces were soiled.

Management says all violations have been corrected. According to the report, most of the violations were corrected at the time of the inspection.
