Authorities Discover Six Vehicles Submerged in Canyon Lakes System

It was just a test, but it proved to be a useful one.

The Lubbock Fire Department Search and Rescue Team went to Canyon Lakes Monday morning, to test their new sonar equipment. And on their first run, they discovered six vehicles at the bottom of the lake. Two of them had been reported stolen.

"It's really an awesome piece of equipment, and it's a side scan sonar, it shoots off both sides as we drag it along the bottom," said Royce Ethridge. "(it) makes a pictures that looks like a negative."

The technology could prove especially useful in a search for human remains. For that reason, Lubbock Police attended Monday's test.
