Family Says Elderly Woman Murdered in Abernathy

Family members tell NewsChannel 11 that an elderly woman, Nadine Rogers, 78, was found brutally murdered in her Abernathy home.

Authorities tell NewsChannel 11 that Rogers was a victim of a violent crime, and they have a male suspect in custody.

The Hale County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at about 4:50am, who in turn notified the Abernathy Police Department.

A family member reportedly spoke to Rogers around 11:30 p.m., and investigators believe she died in her home before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities found Rogers' car at a second location. They had it towed to Lubbock Tuesday afternoon.

Rogers' family says they appreciate the community's outpouring of support. They intend to release a statement when they know more about the case.

Some Abernathy residents tell us that Rogers was well-known for her generosity and giving nature.
