Suspect Confesses To Abernathy Murder

Nadine Rogers Nadine Rogers

Late Tuesday evening a 21-year-old male confessed to killing 78-year-old Nadine Rogers early that morning in Abernathy.  Investigators found Rogers dead inside her home in the 1000 Block of 14th Street just before 5:00 a.m.

An anonymous call to the Hale County Sheriff's Office lead police to Rogers' home.  Investigators say this was a violent crime.  Abernathy Police and the Texas Rangers are investigating.

Police say they will keep control of the home until the end of the week.

A family member tells NewsChannel 11 they spoke with Rogers around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Family members say the investigation is still very preliminary for them as well, but they say they plan to release a statement as soon as they know more.

They tell us that Rogers was a very kind and caring person, and that most folks in Abernathy know she would have done anything for them, so this is a very hard time for the entire community.

Authorities tell NewsChannel 11 the suspect should be officially charged late Tuesday night and arraigned on Wednesday.
