Texas Rangers catcher Ivan Rodriguez homered in his first at bat of spring training on Wednesday in Florida. The player known as Pudge missed the final six weeks of last season after left knee surgery. The Rangers played their first intrasqaud game at camp in Port Charlotte, Florida. Another match up is set for Thursday. The Rangers will face the Cincinnati Reds in Sarasota, Florida on Friday.
Pudge's homer came in the first inning off Hideki Irabu, who is trying to make the Rangers' roster. Kenny Rogers was the winning pitcher on Wednesday. The veteran left hander allowed five hits and one run over three innings. He also struck out five.
The team on which Rodriguez and Rogers played, coached by Terry Francona, won 7 - 5 in the nine inning game. Irabu was the losing pitcher, allowing five hits and two runs over two innings.
