A teenager lies in critical condition at University Medical Center with gunshot wounds while Lubbock police are searching for the suspects who put him there. It happened outside Harwell Elementary at 41st and Avenue D, just before 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
Lubbock police say everyone involved in this shooting knew each other. Police say quote there are "gang undertones in this crime".
"It started out as an altercation, a verbal altercation, the subjects separated. They came back to the intersection of 41st and Avenue D where more words were exchanged and a subject broke out a long barrel, .22 rifle and fired at least seven rounds," Sgt. Ross Hester said.
One of those rounds hit a 15-year-old male in the stomach. He is now in critical condition. Some of those rounds even hit Harwell elementary, which of course is closed for the summer. A nearby car was also hit.
Police are searching for two Hispanic males. Both are between 15-and 17-years-old, about 5'7 , 160 to 180 pounds. Police say they left the scene in an older model white four door Mercury Grand Marquis.
