City health inspectors hit 31 local food service establishments this week. Among them are a butcher, a baker, a couple of schools, and a newcomer to the Top Performing List. Let's see what's cooking in another edition of Food for Thought.
Brown Elementary makes the grade this week as a NewsChannel 11 Food for Thought Top Performer with no critical violations. So does Ballenger Head Start, they also have zero critical violations. Also on the perfect scoring list two places under the same roof. The Bakery and the Meat Market at Sam's Club at 4304 West Loop 289 are both Top Performers.
Our featured top performer knows the grass is greener on their side of the fence, or in this case the 'cilantro' is greener. That's because they've got a perfect score all wrapped up. It's meat and potatoes like you've probably never had them sizzling and spicy and wrapped inside a huge flavored flour tortilla, complete with all the fixins'. Cilantro's Burrito Grill is a NewsChannel 11 Food for Thought Top Performer this week with no critical violations. "I want them to hear Cilantro's and think of big bad burritos," says owner Justin Barnard.
Barnard is a big fan of the big burrito and whether they're filled with chicken, steak or veggies, making them from the freshest ingredients and serving them up in a squeaky clean restaurant are things Barnard and his staff put at the top of their priority list every day. "We talk about you know just really keeping things clean and you know in the corners and the places that are easy to overlook and just making it a priority because we know about you guys and we know about the health guys, we try to expect them everyday."
For the second week in a row, there are no low performers.
