In 1951, Lawrence Welk made a name for himself with the Lawrence Welk Show, but in the 40s, the musician was still playing gigs around across the country.
It was the music that brought him to Ralls, and the lack of money that kept him there.
"He came to Ralls to play in the Crystal Theater, which is right down the road and his accountant ran off with his hotel bill," said Rhett Parker, owner of Ralls Inn. "He had to stay at the hotel and host dances til he could pay off the rest of the hotel bills and move on to the next stop."
Parker and his wife are now renovating that hotel, the Ralls Inn.
