Robin Roberts of ABC's "Good Morning America" has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 46-year-old anchor told viewers about her illness on Tuesday's show. She said the disease is in its early stages and her prognosis is good. She plans to undergo surgery Friday.
Roberts says she found a lump on her breast the same day she'd done a report on former "GMA" movie critic Joel Siegel. He died of colon cancer last month.
Her announcement came two years, nearly to the day, after Peter Jennings died of lung cancer.
Roberts has been a contributor to ABC's morning program since 1995. She was named co-anchor in 2005.
