Levelland Teen Kidnappers Sentenced for Boot Camp

The Levelland mother, whose child was kidnapped by two teens, says the punishment does not fit the crime.

Three-month-old Saydi Brooklyn Mendez was kidnapped in Levelland last month. Her mother,  Chelsea Johnson, was in the Hockley County courtroom Tuesday, as the judge handed down the sentence.

"I really think that she deserves more punishment than what she got," Johnson said.

A 15-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl both admitted to kidnapping Saydi. She was found about 90 minutes later, in the parking lot of the Levelland Wal-Mart.

Both teens are sentenced to boot camp, a secure military-style facility.

"It shows that every teenager is allowed to kidnap a baby and go to boot camp and get away with it," Johnson said.

The female juvenile will spend a month at boot camp, while the male juvenile was sentenced to three months.
