We are about to see just how aggressive Lubbock City Council will get with your proposed city budget. True stewardship will require a savvy councilmember questioning city staff to find the fat.
Remember, this budget is a flat tax rate but they're still getting more money from appraisal creep. The good news is they are closer to Mayor Miller's original campaign promise to lower our tax burden. So when scrubbing the budget this year, council should consider this:
Then, after every dollar is questioned, the real work begins...executing the will of the people.
I believe Lubbock citizens want their elected officials challenging this proposed flat tax to become a true tax cut. To do that, they need to cut less than 1% from a $315 million budget...not an impossible task. My guess is the mayor might go to LP&L and ask for some help instead of cutting the budget, but time will tell.
