Investigators are preparing to present the shooting death of Jose Vasquez to a Hale County grand jury.
A deputy shot the Plainview man after Vasquez reportedly threatened him with a garden hoe, on Monday. That deputy remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Texas Rangers.
Vasquez's family says he had a history of mental illness. They have set up a memorial fund to help pay for his funeral services. Donations can be made at any branch of City Bank.
Services are scheduled for Friday afternoon in O'Donnell.
