State Representative Makes Inquiry Into Salary of Suspect in Merimon Disappearance

NewsChannel 11 has uncovered that your tax dollars have been funding the salary for the suspect in the disappearance of Peggy Merimon and Kay Harrelson.

Thursday, we told you the suspect is an employee at the Lubbock State School and has been paid more than $44,000 in the past year since he's been on paid administrative leave.

NewsChannel 11 wanted to know if tax dollars were paying for his salary even though he hasn't been to work in nearly a year now. We called State Representative Delwin Jones who says yes.

Jones says, "The taxpayers of the whole country are paying because part of it is federal money and part of it is state so it's just in general taxpayer money."

Now, Jones is taking action. He says, "I've made an inquiry with the department and suggested that if the guy is on the payroll, we need to him to be working or we need to remove him from the payroll and I've recommended that since he's been off for over a year that I feel like he should be terminated." Jones made that suggestion with MHMR of Texas.

We want to remind you there have never been any arrests but Jones says that's besides the fact, taxpayers shouldn't be paying a salary for someone who isn't working.
