524th Squadron at Cannon Air Force Base Deactivated

The 524th Fighter Squadron at Cannon Air Force Base has flown its final mission.

Two F-16 Warbirds went to Angel Fire and conducted a bomb drop at the Melrose Bombing Range Friday. A deactivation ceremony is slated August 30th for the 524th, also called the "Hounds of Heaven."

Cannon's 523rd fighter squadron was deactivated in May as the base prepares for transition to the Air Force Special Operations Command October first.

Cannon's last fighter squadron to deactivate will be the 522nd.
