The motorcross community is mourning the loss of a fellow racer.
Todd Cathey, 19, of Amarillo, died at University Medical Center Sunday, after crashing his motorcycle at TNT Raceway in Idalou.
NewsChannel 11 obtained a copy of the 911 call: "I need to get a helicopter out here right now. I got a 19-year-old knocked out with a head injury."
Friends say Cathey was racing in the TNT Summer Night series Saturday night, when he went over a jump and lost control. The bike flipped over the teen, causing serious head injuries.
Aerocare arrived around 9:30 p.m. Saturday and flew Cathey to Lubbock, where he later died.
Cathey is now being remembered for his skill and love of life.
"He's the type of guy you go with to the track and everyone knew him... he' s a really fun and out- going person," Cathey's friend Matt Mueller, Todd's friend.
A memorial fund is in place to help Cathey's family with funeral expenses. Donations can be made at any location of People's Bank.
TNT will also hold a Todd Cathey Memorial Race on August 25th. Track owners tell NewsChannel 11, "This is a tragic loss and bad accident, and our hearts go out to the families."
