Lubbock City Secretary Answers Questions about Linda DeLeon Recall Petition

On Tuesday, the City Secretary's office is explaining why she denied requests from the group that organized the Linda DeLeon recall petition.

The group filed its second petition Monday afternoon. Their first one failed, and the group requested that an independent observer oversee the validation process.

"The city secretary's office is responsible for reviewing the validation of the petition," said Becky Garza, Lubbock City Secretary. "And the Secretary of State's office advised us that the responsibility of those duties can't be delegated."

Garza also said the Spanish forms of the petition were verified by a certified Spanish translator, which is why she did not grant the group an extension.
