After listening to 63 cases, a Lubbock County Grand Jury handed down 60 indictments Tuesday evening. Those indictments could result in jail time for 58 different people including a Department of Public Safety Trooper and a Child Protective Services worker.
Among the charges Tuesday were murder, sexual assault and attempted kidnapping.
We begin with a sexual assault indictment against William Stewart, 36. Investigators say he works for CPS. He's accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a 30-year-old woman. Investigators found Ketamine in her system. Ketamine is an anesthetic used in both people and veterinary medicine. The victim says she passed out, and then woke up to find Stewart sexually assaulting her.
The grand jury also indicted a DPS Trooper for sexual assault. Ruben Trevino, 43, is accused of sexually assaulting his common law wife. The victim says she was napping when Trevino forced her to undress, and sexually assaulted her twice. Investigators tell us Trevino is a DPS Trooper. Police arrested him Tuesday evening.
The grand jury also indicted Keith Vigil, 40, for attempted aggravated kidnapping. This is Vigil's second indictment on this charge. The first came back in August of 2005. Vigil is accused of trying to lure more than one child into his vehicle. He's been in custody since June of 2005 for bodily injury to a child.
Vincent Sandoval, 18, and Alfredo Perez, 19, stand indicted for the July 25th murder of Javier Castaneda, 15. Castaneda was gunned down outside Harwell Elementary School. Investigators say the shooting may be gang related. Sandoval and Perez turned themselves into authorities five days after Castaneda's death.
These indictments mean the grand jury felt there was enough evidence for a trial. We'll keep folks up to date on all of these cases.
