LISD Taxes Set To Decrease

Thursday will be the public's only chance to discuss a proposed tax decrease in the Lubbock School District. Last week, NewsChannel 11 told you the district proposed a tax rate decrease. If the proposed decrease is passed, taxpayers in the district will see a savings set to start this fall.

Here's the breakdown:

  • The current rate is $1.565
  • The proposal is to decrease that by $.33, making it $1.235
  • Average homeowner with $100K home = savings of $330 per year

It's all thanks to the state legislature.

"They implemented a new business tax which is going to increase revenues flowing to the state and in return or in turn they're going to use those revenues then to increase state funding to school districts," Districts Superintendent for Financial Services Art Martin said.

If you would like to learn more about this proposed tax decrease, LISD is having a public hearing Thursday at the District Administration Building located at 1628 19th Street, on the corner of 19th and Avenue Q. The hearing starts at 7 a.m.
