Lubbock On Standby For Hurricane Relief

Lubbock is one of 28 Texas cities deemed shelter hubs.

If Hurricane Dean does displace Texans, Lubbock will house up to 1,000 evacuees. Cots have already been set up at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center and at the Coliseum.

"I think the citizens of Lubbock should be feeling good to know we're here to help our fellow Texans, hundreds of miles away," Emergency Coordinator Kevin Overstreet said.

Several Lubbockites have volunteered to help. Registration closed about 8:00 p.m. Volunteers were given ID badges that will be used should Lubbock offer relief.
