Both Sides Rest In Benny Cole Trial - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

The man charged with fatally stabbing Gabriel Herrera last February says he did it.

In court on Tuesday Benny Cole took the stand saying he was awakened by Herrera kicking him and grabbing his neck. Cole says he pulled a knife out to cut Herrera and free himself. Police say Cole and Herrera had gotten into an argument over rent.

Benny Cole is charged with first degree murder and if convicted could face up to life in prison.  Closing arguments are expected Wednesday morning.
