Lubbock Boy Scout Honored For Saving a Drowning Man

A Lubbock Boy Scout is being called a hero, but Joey Monje says it was simply quick thinking.

Monje was boating in Kentucky with his dad and brother when he heard someone splashing in the water.

"I immediately got a life preserver and threw it at him to help him a little bit," Monje said.

Monje then threw a life preserver to the man, got out of the boat and swam alongside the man helping him to shore.

That's why the Boy Scouts of America recognized Monje for heroism. Senator Robert Duncan presented the award to Monje in a ceremony at Wester Elementary Wednesday night.
