In an effort to improve public safety and reduce insurance rates, Lubbock wants to build more fire stations.
The Lubbock Fire Department wants to improve its rating, which could mean insurance savings for homeowners. To do that, a consultant study is recommending areas of improvement including more training, dispatchers and fire stations.
"We need the fire protection, so we already planned to build the additional fire stations. This study helped validate exactly where th stations need to be," Lubbock Fire Chief Rhea Cooper said.
Recommended areas for new stations are:
- 114th and Quaker (Vintage Township)
- South Loop 289 & Indiana
- 67th & Oakridge
- 114th & Milwaukee
Chief Cooper hopes at least one station will be built by 2009.
