West Nile Virus in Lubbock?

During Thursday night's festivities, you may want to remember to bring your mosquito repellent.

NewsChannel 11 was the first to alert you when mosquitoes in South Lubbock tested positive for the virus, earlier this month. And right now, the health department is investigating two possible human cases of the West Nile Virus, right here in Lubbock.

Again, these cases are unconfirmed, but the symptoms suggest West Nile.

So remember the "5 D's":

  • Avoid the outdoors at Dusk and Dawn.
  • Dress appropriately in long sleeves and long pants, if you must go out.
  • Use insect repellant containing DEET.
  • Drain standing water around your home.

If mosquitoes are still a problem Vector Control can spray your neighborhood by calling the city's mosquito hotline at 775-3110.
