The Lubbock City Council approved next year's budget on its second reading, only this time - with a lower tax rate.
Thursday, council members dropped $722,000 from the budget, with a tax rate of 45.505 cents per $100 property valuation. Cuts were made from various city departments, including renovations to City Hall.
The vote was 5-2, with council members Linda DeLeon and Floyd Price voting against.
The budget and tax rate will be up for final approval on September 13.
