While the city celebration is over, the Lubbock Western All-Stars left Thursday's ceremonies with memories that will last a lifetime. The World Series Celebration started at United Market Street on 50th Street and Indiana Avenue. They came off the bus and hundreds of screaming fans greeted them.
From there, the team loaded up into several convertibles, and headed down the parade route to City Bank on the Brownfield Highway. There, around a thousand people cheered on the team, their coaches, and their families as the parade wrapped up and a special ceremony began.
State Senator Robert Duncan told the team they've made the entire state proud. They also heard letters from members of the College Baseball Hall of Fame and Nolan Ryan. The team received a copy of those letters, and a special surprise, a signed baseball from Nolan Ryan!
Team members and coaches tell NewsChannel 11 the parade and ceremony were awesome, and they appreciate all the folks who've supported them all the way.
The team has been invited the Texas Rangers' September 22nd game, and they will also be at Coronado High School's football opener Friday night, so the tributes keep on coming for the team.
