New developments in the disappearance of Peggy Merimon.  The suspect in the case is no longer employed by the Lubbock State School.

Peggy's husband tells NewsChannel 11 he is ecstatic and grateful the state has taken this action. Gearl Merimon is also thanking State Representative Delwin Jones for leading the push.

Jones contacted the State School after NewsChannel 11 alerted him to the fact that the suspect in this case was still on paid administrative leave a year after Peggy's disappearance.  Jones said all along that the suspect should either be fired, or put back to work.  As we told folks earlier this month, during his year on paid leave, the suspect made more than $44,000, and that his salary is funded by state and federal tax dollars.

"I'm pleased that the state has finally taken this action.  About three weeks ago I learned that this person of interest at the Lubbock State School was still on the payroll.  As of today (Friday), he will be terminated," Jones said.

Merimon's husband hopes that these latest developments may help lead to them to Peggy. The family has been without their wife and mother for more than a year.

Peggy Merimon went missing on August 9th of 2006 from the Lubbock State School.  Witnesses saw her leave the school with a man and her co-worker Kay Harrelson. Searchers found Harrelson's body days later near Shallowater.

Again, as of Friday, the suspect in this case is no longer employed at the Lubbock State School, and there is still a reward offered for anyone with information that can lead the family to Peggy.

If you know anything about her whereabouts, give Crime Line a call at (806) 741-1000.

NewsChannel 11 called police Friday, and they say there is no new information that they can release at this time.

It was April 11th, when Sergeant Jeff Baker first told us the man in question was now a suspect instead of simply a person of interest.  However, we have chosen not to release the name as there have not been any arrests or charges.
