HPV Vaccine May Help Prevent Oral Cancer

The HPV vaccine is well known for its ability to help prevent cervical cancer. That's why it has been recommended for adolescent girls, and now dentists say that vaccine may also prevent oral cancers.

A report in the Journal General Dentistry indicates the HPV vaccine could reduce 35 percent of oral cancers, meaning dentists would see about 10,000 fewer cases of oral cancer every year.

Researchers are calling on more studies to determine who would benefit most by the vaccine.
