Lubbock Pedestrian Killed in Plainview

A Lubbock man is dead, after a pedestrian accident in Plainview.

According to Captain Michael Carroll of the Plainview Police Department, Mario Rodriguez, 31, of Lubbock, was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe, while he and a friend were pushing a disabled Pontiac Sunfire. The SUV was driven by Christopher Yannis, 24, of Floydada.

The accident occurred at 1:47 a.m., near the intersection of Interstate 27 and Highway 194, near Covenant Hospital. Rodriguez was taken to the emergency room there, where was pronounced dead at 2:53 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Kaye Phillips.

The friend was treated for minor injuries, and later released.

The cause of the investigation is under investigation, however authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor.

No charges have been filed at this time.
