CDC Tracking Amoeba Deaths - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

The death of a Lubbock man is now part of a national investigation.

Colby Sawyer died from an infection he received after swimming at Lake LBJ near Austin. An amoeba that lives in the lake caused the fatal infection which also killed a 12-year-old boy at that same lake.

The CDC says there are now six amoeba related deaths across the nation including the two here in Texas. There were three other deaths in Florida and one in Arizona. The infection is extremely rare but this summer spike now has the CDC looking into additional research.
