More Topps Meat Products Pulled After Recent Contamination

A local grocery store has cleared its shelves of Topps Meat frozen hamburger patties. United Supermarkets tells NewsChannel 11 they removed the ground beef after the company announced a recall of the meat due to possible E. Coli contamination.

The New Jersey based company says it's recalling nearly 22 million pounds of ground beef products. That's up from 332,000 pounds recalled earlier this week.

Some two dozen cases of E. Coli are suspected in eight states.

The recall comes after federal inspectors found inadequate safety measures at a Topps plant.

It includes all Topps products with either a "sell by" or "best if used by" date between September 25th, 2007 and September 25th, 2008.

NewsChannel 11 attempted to contact Wal-Mart but our calls were not returned.

Lowe's Supermarket does not carry the Topps Meat brand.
