Tragedy Hits the Lubbock Medical Community - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

Family and friends continue to mourn the loss of Dr. Winston Whitt and his wife, Zenaida.

The Whitts were killed when their Jeep collided head-on with a semi around 6:45 Friday night.

The accident happened just South of Wolfforth at the intersection of FM 179 and FM 41. Witness' told DPS troopers the Jeep carrying the Whitt's ran a stop sign pulling out in front of a semi. The semi hit the Jeep on the passenger side.

Dr. Whitt and his wife were pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the semi received minor injuries.

Dr. Whitt specialized in internal medicine and was named the best physician in Lubbock for 2007. His wife, Zenaida, was a registered nurse.

The family is still making funeral arrangements and have not decided when the service will be held.
