Denver City High School is one of 287 schools across the nation to win a Blue Ribbon Award. The U-S Department of Education gives the award to schools that show significant academic gains or improvement.
In August, Denver City ISD was surprised to learn that its high school had gone from being a recognized campus in 2006 to an unacceptable campus in 2007. The district appealed its rating with the Texas Education Agency. Apparently a coding error was made and the Texas Education Agency granted the district's appeal. The school was then given an acceptable rating.
The Blue Ribbon Award is part of the No Child Left Behind Program.
