Risks of Teen Smoking

A study from Columbia University cautions parents to not take it lightly if they catch their child experimenting with cigarettes.

They have found that teens who smoke are five times more likely to drink and 13 times more likely to use marijuana than non-smokers.

The study says kids who had their first cigarette at or before age 12 were nearly seven times more likely to use other illegal drugs, like heroin and cocaine. Teen smokers also appear to have higher rates of depression, panic attacks and general anxiety.
