Jury Sentences Michael Cunningham To Eight Years In Prison

After five hours of deliberations, a Lubbock jury sentenced Michael Cunningham to eight years in prison for aggravated assault.

In January, he dragged Lubbock County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Lunsford with his car, nearly pulling Lunsford's shoulder out of joint.

Lubbock County District Attorney Matt Powell said, "I think they're a little disappointed, you can see that, and like I told mark and his wife that verdict is definitely not a reflection of what I feel his worth is or anything about the case. He's an ultimate professional. He'll respect the jury's verdict just like we do."

Cunningham could have faced anywhere from probation to life in prison.
