Lubbock Firefighters Respond to Tar Pot Fire - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

If you were downtown Saturday afternoon, you might have noticed a large cloud of black smoke.

What appeared to be a major fire was actually quite minor according to fire investigators.

When firefighters arrived at Main and Avenue K around 3:00 p.m. Saturday, they quickly discovered the source for the massive amount of smoke - a tar pot had caught fire.

While the fire was minor, investigators say the petroleum from the tar caused the large cloud of smoke. Firefighters extinguished the flames within minutes. No significant damage was caused to the building.
