Robbery Turns Into a Homicide

The Lubbock Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate a robbery/homicide that occurred earlier today.

It all started at 3:30 this afternoon at the Carl's Corner Convenience Store at 98th and Martin Luther King Blvd.

A man attempted to rob the store with a knife. The robber then left the store in a green Toyota Tercell. Not far behind was a store clerk in a white Jeep Cherokee. The store clerk called the police while following the robber.

"Indications were that about right at that same time or a couple seconds after we received a call from an individual that said he was following that suspect and... Later it resulted in a shooting at US 84 and MLK," said Major Don Carter with the Lubbock Sheriff's Department.

When authorities arrived on the scene, the robber was found shot in the chest in the white Jeep. Remember, that's the car the store clerk was driving.

The robber died en route to the hospital from the gunshot wound.

At this hour the Lubbock Sheriff's Office is investigating two crimes, both the robbery and the homicide.

The store clerk is in custody of the Sheriff's Office at this time.
