Amber Alert Avoided as Lubbock Authorities Arrest Suspect

A 10-year-old girl is safe as aggravated assault charges against a suspect are pending.  Lubbock authorities tell NewsChannel 11 they were just minutes away from issuing an Amber Alert when they arrested the suspect.

It apparently started as a domestic dispute call around 9:30 p.m. Monday at a home near New Deal. There, a woman and young boy were injured. They are being treated at local hospitals but the man suspected of causing those injuries took off with a ten year old girl.

Sgt. Greg Parrott says, "From our understanding, the individual had sent messages back to the house, indicating there may be some emotional distress and possibly suicidal concerns. Our urgency was compounded by the fact that he had this child with him."

Authorities immediately began searching for a blue GMC truck.  Then around 11:00 p.m. Monday,  just minutes before authorities were set to issue an Amber Alert, they spotted the truck at the intersection of 58th and University.

Parrott says, "After further investigation and following up in areas where we knew the subject had lived, we were able to confirm the subject was in the vehicle and we made the proper safety precautions before making the traffic stop."

NewsChannel 11 cameras were the only ones rolling as authorities arrested the suspect and found the child safe.

The suspect, 26-year-old Allan Wayne Shepherd, is in the Lubbock County jail on two charges of assault with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

We are still trying to learn more about their relationship, the original domestic dispute call and the conditions of those victims.
