Alcohol Measure Fails in Abernathy

In Abernathy, a yes vote in the polls Tuesday meant you were in favor of packaged beer and wine sales. Voters we found earlier in the day were torn on the issue.

"I have mixed emotions. I'm not going to comment on that (my vote). I can see the tax benefit but then I can see other people's rights too," said one voter.

"I believe strongly the alcohol decision will make a big difference and just one vote will help out," commented another voter.

But in the end, voters had their say and packaged beer and wine will not be sold in Abernathy stores.

The measure to legalize beer and wine sales failed by just 77 votes. 45% of voters were in favor of alcohol sales but 55 percent were against.
