Laura Bush's father attended Texas Tech in 1932 and on Wednesday the First Lady visited two of Tech's regional campuses. Mrs. Bush visited the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo and Odessa.
You'll remember back in August, Chancellor Kent Hance announced the renaming of Tech's Women's Health Research Institute in honor of the first lady. It is now the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health.
"Thanks to each and every one of you, the whole Texas Tech community for this wonderful honor, I can't imagine anything I'd rather be associated with, then the good health of women, especially West Texas women." said First Lady Laura Bush.
The institute was established in Amarillo in 2000 and expanded in 2006 to include campuses in El Paso, Lubbock, Odessa, and Abilene.
